lyrics

Beside the old cathedral
In Canterbury town
There used to sing a busker
From dawn until sundown
A voice to soothe a demon
Fingers fleet and true
I loved her like an idol
I thought she loved me too

Why she had to leave me
She tried to put across
She could see the angles
But I was at a loss
Talk of blind ambition
To chase the rainbow’s end
Why that meant her leaving
I couldn’t comprehend

Seven years have passed
Since the busker broke my heart
Today I heard the news
That her song was in the charts
An epic tale of heartache
To change things if she could
I knew I was the subject
And I finally understood

Beside the old cathedral
In Canterbury town
There used to sing a busker
From dawn until sundown
A voice to soothe a demon
Fingers fleet and true
I loved her like an idol
Now I know she loved me too
