lyrics

This is the story of Grenfell
A tale to make you feel numb
The stairwell as dark as a raven
The cladding as cheap as they come

The occupants wrote to the council
To warn of the risk of a fire
But the poor are the bane of the cosy
So their notes were tossed on the pyre

Then one steamy summer evening
The inevitable came to be true
The screams ran down from the tower
There was nothing the firemen could do

And whom should we blame for their murder?
Our foundations are ruptured and wrong
Be change or accept there’ll be trouble
For the oppressed can only take it for so long
